2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Calistoga
A striking expression of the appellation’s unique terroir this 2021 Girard Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon showcases a bold and heady nose of ripe fruits and savory spice. On the palate, ripe blackberry and plum flavors are complemented by baking spices, and hints of dark roast coffee. The fine and dusty tannins are well-integrated leading to a powerful
yet balanced finish.
Sourced primarily from the Tenma Vineyard in an area called Jericho Canyon in northeastern Calistoga where the soils are ancient fluvial fan deposits. Ample sunshine contributes to the ripe fruit flavors and concentrated character found in this bold and full-bodied wine.
The growing season started with a wet January and February, then nearly no rain for the remainder of the season. The dry weather resulted in early spring budbreak, followed by early flowering, bloom, and fruit set. Calm spring and summer temperatures allowed for even veraison in July. Due in part to continued drought conditions the yields were
naturally lower resulting in optimal ripening of intensely concentrated and very flavorful berries.
