2021 Meritage 202, Destination Series, Sonoma Valley
The aromatic profile begins with a delightful mixed berry pie character, enhanced by touches of mint, bay leaf and vanilla. The palate follows with flavors of blackberry and plum, accented by cinnamon and a pronounced tannic structure that resolves into a subtle roasted note on the finish.

Wine Profile
Production Notes
The Meritage 202 is a full-bodied red blend crafted from the Bordeaux varietals grown at our estate. This wine reflects our fruit quality and winery history, bearing the bonded number "202" granted to patriarch Louis Kunde in the 1900s. The blend highlights our vineyards' best, with each varietal contributing unique characteristics. Cabernet Franc provides aromatic complexity and vibrant structure, Cabernet Sauvignon adds backbone and dark fruit flavors, Petit Verdot lends color, tannin, spice and floral notes, and Malbec offers richness, black fruit notes and plush texture.
Winemaker Notes
Each grape variety was crushed and fermented separately, with week-long cold soaks prior to fermentation for color and flavor extraction. An additional two to three weeks of cold soaking were allowed after pump-overs stopped to release any hidden flavors the fruit had yet to express. All lots were barrel aged separately until the final blend was crafted prior to bottling.
Food Pairing Notes
Pair with ossobuco (braised veal shanks). The wine's firm tannins and full-bodied structure cut through the richness and unctuous texture of the slow-braised meat, while the savory herbs and warm spice echo the dish's flavors and aromatics.
